Accessibility
Accessibility statement
We want MyHome to be usable by everyone who has household paperwork to look after.
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not had MyHome formally audited against them, so we do not claim that it fully meets that standard. This statement is based on our own checks.
What we have done
- You can use the public pages with a keyboard alone, and a visible focus ring shows where you are.
- A “Skip to content” link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on the public pages.
- The mobile menu keeps focus inside it while it is open, and Escape closes it. Icon-only buttons and the current page in the menu are labelled for screen readers.
- On small screens, buttons and other tappable controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- We check text colours against the 4.5:1 contrast ratio that WCAG AA asks for, and we have changed colours that fell short, including the status colours in dark mode.
- Decorative animation and the blinking cursor on our pages stop when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Pages declare their language as British English, and you can choose a light or dark appearance in your settings.
Known limitations
- MyHome reads scanned documents and photos using text recognition (OCR). What it finds, and so what you can search and what a screen reader can read from it, depends on the quality of the scan and can contain mistakes.
- Documents you upload keep whatever accessibility they had. We do not repair a PDF that has no structure or a photo that has no text.
- The signed-in app is large and has changed quickly. We have not tested every screen with a range of screen readers, so some parts may not yet meet WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Sign-in with Google and card payments are provided by Google and Stripe. Their pages are outside our control.
